During MLS's 2024 All-Star Campaign, FC Dallas was working to get the goalkeeper, Maarten Paes, voted in. Paes was having a strong season and had quickly become a fan favorite. After making it to the All-Star team, FC Dallas released a limited edition scarf and shirt to commemorate his achievements. He also learned of his roster spot through custom keeper gloves.
Part One: Keeper Gloves
Working with the digital and communications team, we decided on breaking the All-Star news to Paes with custom Keeper gloves. Using a combination of acrylic paint and Posca pens, I created a keepsake for Paes and a fun way to inform him of his spot on the team post-training.
Part Two: Scarf
After Paes made the team, the Marketing and Team Store decided it would be best to create some commemorative merch pieces for fans. The first of which was a knit soccer scarf. For this design I abstracted shapes currently on the MLS goalkeeper kits while keeping it club colors for brand recognition. I also included a netted pattern in the background to reference his postion and one of Paes's signature poses.
Part Three: Vintage Tee
The final piece to this All-Star series is a vintage tee I designed for the everyday casual fan. With subbtle references to the club and league, this shirt is really all about Paes. We also chose a premium vintage oversized fit for this tee to emphasize the eclectic 90s style graphic.
